Unaffordable
Completed for Steinberg Hart during a summer internship in 2018, this publication takes a critical look at the current housing situation in the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically the impact that teachers and the broader workforce have faced. After an analysis of median incomes and average housing costs, this publication presents a number of options for alternative forms of housing for educators at all levels. While there may be few built precedents, this document aims to be a foundation of knowledge for other designers to build upon in the coming years.
Thesis Book
Growing Minds, Changing Spaces is a graphic representation of an entire academic year of rigorous research, experimentation, and design during Travis' fifth-year architecture thesis studio. With the goal of challenging the prevailing understanding of modularity and flexibility in education, Travis designed a radically new kit of parts that affords new freedoms for students, teachers, and administrators. Flexible elements at all scales allow users to take agency over their environment, adjusting its size, configuration, function, and appearance to fit their needs.
